If you were one of the lucky ones who witnessed Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood perform 15 Step with the USC Marching Band at this year’s Grammy Awards, you witnessed sheer music genius. It was undoubtedly one of the boldest and most riveting performances I’ve seen in quite a while. I found a Youtube video documenting a bit of the preparation, rehearsal, and backstage goings-on that went into this wonderful performance. It’s pretty interesting. Also included after the jump is a video of the performance itself from the Grammys.
In keeping with the recent sports trend, Pearl has announced they have reached a deal to be the official supplier of drums and percussion for the Pacific 10 Conference (Pac-10) men’s and women’s basketball tournaments. Read closely and you’ll see that not all of the universities have agreed to use Pearl drum sets, just Pearl marching percussion. It looks like all the California schools (USC, UCLA, UC-Berkeley) might have other contracts they must honor. Interesting. If any of you guys are college hoops fans, keep an eye out come tournament time. Now you’ll know what these schools are playing.
Maybe this has been around for a while, but I just saw this over at Roland! It’s a slick electronic marching drum that comes with tons of sounds and features.
The new RMP-12 is the world’s first electronic marching-percussion instrument to incorporate Roland’s patented and unique muti-layer mesh head technology with a built-in sound module and Rhythm Coach. With its advanced V-Drums technology and wide variety of sounds, the RMP-12 offers enhanced playability, expressiveness, and versatility. It’s perfect for indoor and outdoor performance as well as for quiet practice. Unlike other practice pads, the RMP-12 offers an amazing replication of acoustic drums thanks to its realistic sounds and feel.
Their site has some amazing videos that feature non other than Johnny Rabb! You really owe it to yourself to see it in action.
